WHAT DID YOU SAY?

The internet has provided people with many different avenues to voice their thoughts and emotions and one of the most used avenues is the blogosphere. For many people blogging has become an extremely useful tool to air their emotional grievances and none more so than disgruntled employees. Blogging provides people with a perceived anonymity that neither Facebook nor Twitter gives them. The fear always exists that somehow, some way word will get back to their bosses and they will be fired. Now with blogging, this fear has been significantly reduced but it still exists.
There are many people who take to blogs to simply vent their anger at being ‘mistreated’ in a work place. Many people know that if they go to their superiors and complain it might result in a termination of their employment. Blogging provides people with the capability to vent their anger to an audience, albeit an anonymous one. There are so many disgruntled employees who take to blogging, that with a Google search you can find more than a few blogs where people have shared their bad experiences. This occurs as a result of people trying to find others who have had similar bad experiences and they all wish to share their misfortune and consolidate sympathy or to just get it out of their system. Multimedia has empowered many people to share their thoughts and feelings. Blogging has become very central to modern communication. Everyone can create their own space so that they are able to express their own thoughts and feelings about what ever aggravates them. Employees have taken advantage of this opportunity perhaps more than anyone. Blogging as a type of social media has given individuals a chance to just blow off steam.

  1. Hi Jasmin – Thanks for your post. I too enjoyed the The Bitchy Waiter. It was a well written and amusing blog, without being offensive. My blog at Global Blogarama was also about letting off steam online, but I also raised my concerns about how people sometimes use the blogosphere to be downright rude. I think Web 2.0 devices are such a powerful force in modern day communications, however I feel it important for us all to remember that it is still possible to be inappropriate, as much as it is in the physical world. Blogs are a great medium to have your say, but social values should still be considered.
    Perhaps a reference to the reading material for the week, and a few images would have given further depth to your blog.

    I enjoyed your link to The Bitchy Waiter this was something I wouldn't normally have accessed. I too wrote about employee blogging as I find it interesting that people vent on social media. I also can't see a reference list, you should include one to avoid plagiarism. Prior to this course I had never experienced the world of blogging I understand that people need to vent however personally I think we need to think before we type. Great read.

    Your post was a nice read - I never really thought about why people vent their annoyance over the internet, even though I read it almost every day! Your post explained it effectively, yet it hasn't changed my negative opinion of those who moan and complain online, behind people's backs. The link provided was enjoyable and complemented your piece with a perfect example of your central topic. However the post lacks any scholarly sources, citations or reference list, which hinders the credibility of your work as there are no professional ideas to support your statements.
